July 20, 2006 Minutes – Byron Fire Department

 

President Brad Belanger called meeting to order at 19:09. BFFA welcome given by Byron Deputy Chief Chris Millard. Held pledge and moment of silence. Past Presidents acknowledged:

 

Secretary’s Report: motion made to dispense the reading of the minutes.

Safety: We are still looking for a chairperson for the safety committee. If you are interested, please contact Brad Belanger. O-ring handout given out for O2 bottles. The hard plastic O-ring on most O2 bottles is a One Use Only O-ring and can cause dangers if reused.

 

Newsletter: No Report

 

Membership: No Report

 

Fundraising: Nick Dinges requested that anyone willing to take over the BFFA 50/50 responsibilities contact him. His schedule has gotten very full and he could use some help with the 50/50.

 

Resources: Kevin Lalley reported that the cost to replace the lost remote for the PowerPoint projector is $150. The remote was lost sometime after the BFFA conference and the projector is difficult to use without the remote. Motion made and passed to pay the $150 and replace the lost remote.

 

Conference: 2007 Conference information and registration form now posted on the BFFA website in the Conference section. January 6th & 7th, 2007 at Sauk Valley Community College. You may pre-register on Friday January 5th. Current class listing offers three two-day classes: BTLS, PEPP, and Honor Guard Boot Camp. Four one-day classes on Saturday January 6th from 09:00 to 17:00: RIT Team, Basic Company Officer, EMS Haz-Mat, and Trauma Management. Half day classes on Saturday January 6th are Dangers from Above from 08:30 to 12:00 and Getting Over the Language Barrier from 13:00 to 17:00. For Sunday January 7th is day two of the BTLS, PEPP, and Honor Guard Boot Camp. The one day classes for Sunday January 7th from 09:00 to 17:00 are Fire Ground Management for Small and Volunteer Departments, Art of Reading Smoke, ICS for EMS, SOG’s, SOP’s for EMS, and Cold Water Rescue. Half day classes on Sunday January 7th are Getting Over the Language Barrier from 09:00 to 12:30 and Dangers from Above or Helicopter Safety from 13:30 to 17:00. Banquet on Saturday night. There will be a separate form for Conference Reception. BFFA Officers, Past President’s and Guest, or BFFA Member Department Chief and Guest are invited to be our guest for the evening at no charge. Everyone attending Conference Reception including BFFA Past President’s and Guest, or BFFA Member Department Chief and Guest, MUST return the Conference Reception Registration Form so we know how many people to expect at the Conference Reception and can plan accordingly.

Funeral Committee:

Don Brown, 78, formerly served on the Dixon fire department and was also an arson investigator for the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshall, passed away on June 30, 2006. Memorial service to be held in Wickenburg, Arizona on August 5 at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Cards and/or memorials may be sent to his widow Betty Brown at 1855 W. Wickenburg Way, Lot 86, Wickenburg, Arizona 85390. Motion made and passed for BFFA to send a $100 memorial.

 

Website: We will put a link on the website for a BFFA Honor Guard Request Form. This will allow requests for the BFFA Honor Guard services to be filled out online and sent to Kevin.

 

Old Business:  BFFA ID cards: several members stated that MABAS will be issuing ID Cards to all fire service members similar to those currently used by their terrorism task force members. Motion made to table BFFA ID Card system until members can check status of the MABAS ID cards.

 

The NYFD Bike Trip Journey through Heartland Books are now available in Mendota for $25.

Confined space trailer: still working on getting inspected, plates and so on. Motion made and passed to spend money to get plates, inspection and so on.

 

New Business: Jeff Bryant currently has BTLS Certificates from the BFFA Conference for the following people David Sode, Johanee Hines, Dwight Smith, Erin Staucer, Joe Wiltse, and Kate Wiltse. These people should contact Jeff Bryant Office: (815) 857-2000 to obtain their certificates.

 

Byron to host seminar on November 10th and 11th, 2006 featuring Danny Newman and John Norman. The goal is to set the price to attend at $10 a day per person. In order to meet this goal Byron will need sponsors to help pay for the costs. Motion made and passed to give Byron a $1000 for BFFA to help sponsor the event.

 

Hero-to-Hero Program: www.patrioticpastime.com is a Lakewood, WA based organization, with a desire to send a small piece of hometown U.S.A. to our troops. Departments are encouraged to send a department T-shirt to them to send to our troops deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. The hope is that troops can trade t-shirts amongst themselves until they can get one from a fire department that is close to home.
